20 years later, Love and Basketball is still widely named one of our favorite black love stories.  Monica Wright and Quincy McCall quickly became #CoupleGoals when the friends-turned-lovers showed us at a young age how to deal with love, friendships and passion.

Debuting on April 16 in 2000, the legendary film’s story pulls at the heartstrings as we watched childhood friends organically fall in love to become life companions sharing their drive for basketball. The movie is star-studded with well-known actors like Sanaa Lathan, Omar Epps, Regina Hall, and more.

After 20 years, here’s what the cast is up to now below…

3. Sanaa Lathan

Sanaa Lathan received two NAACP Image Award nominations in 2025 for her roles in The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat (2024) and Young. Wild. Free. (2023). She is set to star in and executive produce the upcoming drama series Miss Cleo and has previously starred in Nappily Ever After, earned an Emmy nomination for Succession, and directed On the Come Up (2022). Lathan has also shared that she stopped drinking alcohol three years ago.

4. Omar Epps

As of March 2024, Omar Epps is represented by Independent Artist Group and stars in Power Book III: Raising Kanan. Known for his roles in House, Shooter, This Is Us, and Resurrection, he has won three NAACP Image Awards. Epps has been married to Keisha Spivey since 2006, and they share three children. He is also a writer, co-authoring Nubia: The Reckoning, a dystopian novel exploring social justice, which he wishes had existed during his childhood.

Alfre Woodard has several upcoming projects, including roles in Apple TV+’s The Last Frontier and Netflix’s The Boroughs, as well as producing a miniseries about civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer. Recently, she appeared in the 2024 film Salem’s Lot, voiced characters in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Star Trek: Lower Decks, and starred in The Gray Man (2022).

6. Regina Hall

Regina Hall’s production company, Rh Negative, has partnered with MGM Alternative to develop unscripted shows, starting with Squad Games, a celebrity competition inspired by Girls Trip. She’s also excited about the possibility of a Scary Movie reboot and hopes to reprise her role as Brenda Meeks, especially if the Wayans brothers are involved.

Monica Calhoun, known for her role as Mia Morgan in The Best Man franchise, recently appeared in The Best Man: The Final Chapters and the series Safe Space. Beyond acting, she is involved in philanthropy, using her platform to support cancer and sickle cell awareness. She has also hinted at the possibility of a third Best Man film.

Kyla Pratt, known for The Proud Family and One on One, recently appeared in Not Another Church Movie and competed on Special Forces, where she discovered her own resilience. She shares two daughters with her partner, Danny Kirkpatrick, and remains connected with fans on social media.

Tyra Banks recently made her return to the Victoria’s Secret runway after a 19-year hiatus, closing the 2024 fashion show in a VSX ensemble. Alongside her modeling career, she is developing her ice cream brand, Smize & Dream, and launching an influencer-themed park called ModelLand. Additionally, Banks has hosted America’s Next Top Model and Dancing with the Stars while expanding her business empire.

Debbi Morgan is a seasoned actress known for her roles in All My Children, The Defenders, Beauty in Black, and Keyshia Cole: This is My Story. She has portrayed memorable characters such as Angie Baxter on All My Children and Delores in The Defenders, and starred alongside Kelly Rowland in the Merry Liddle Christmas films.

Boris Kodjoe is an actor, model, and philanthropist, married to Nicole Ari Parker with two children. Recently, he escorted his daughter Sophie to her society debut in Paris and has been actively involved in raising awareness for prostate cancer and destigmatizing incontinence. Kodjoe, who holds a degree in Business, has over 25 years of experience in business development and has worked alongside Parker on various projects, including co-hosting a talk show and supporting their family foundation, the Kodjoe Family Foundation.

Harry Lennix is an accomplished actor known for roles in The Blacklist, The Matrix sequels, and as Martian Manhunter in the DC Extended Universe. Recently, he starred as God in Destination Heaven, appeared as a priest in Godless, and received the Heart of a Champion Award in 2023. Lennix is also involved in various civic activities, serves on the staff of the Goodman Theater Co., and is on the Advisory Council for Northwestern University.

Dennis Haysbert is an actor, narrator, and executive producer known for his roles in 24, Major League, and Heat. Recently, he starred in and executive produced American Smuggler, appeared in the thriller Send Help, and featured in the Hallmark+ series Holidazed. Haysbert is also recognized for his narration work, including the 2024 Tabernacle Choir Christmas concerts, and his role as a spokesperson for Allstate Home & Auto Insurance.
