The relationship between Misa Hylton and Mary J. Blige has taken a turn for the worse, as the legendary stylist is suing the Grammy-winning singer for allegedly sabotaging her business.

According to legal documents obtained by AllHipHop, Hylton is accusing Blige of interfering in a signed management agreement between her company, M.I.S.A. Management, and rapper Vado. Hylton says her team signed Vado to a deal in July 2023 that entitled them to 20% of his earnings. However, she claims Blige used her personal and professional influence to persuade Vado to walk away from the agreement.

The lawsuit alleges that Blige, through her company Beautiful Life Productions, went as far as privately convincing Vado to back out of the deal by hosting him at exclusive events, yacht parties, and hotel meetings — all of which reportedly excluded Misa and her team. It also accuses Blige’s head of security, described in the filing as her boyfriend, of putting pressure on Vado to ditch M.I.S.A. Management in favor of signing with Beautiful Life Productions, which he eventually did on October 1, 2023.

Hylton claims Blige then took control of Vado’s music, including a completed album that wrapped in July 2024. Despite the project being ready, she alleges Blige refused to release the album or allow Vado to tour unless he cut ties with M.I.S.A. Hylton believes this move left the rapper stuck in a dead-end deal, unable to generate income or repay advances — something she refers to as “economic servitude.”

The suit also includes claims of emotional distress and accuses Blige of intentionally damaging Hylton’s business relationships. In total, M.I.S.A. Management is seeking $5 million in damages.

The situation is especially surprising given the history between the two women. Hylton was once a trusted stylist and creative partner to Blige during the peak of her early career. While Blige has yet to publicly comment on the lawsuit, she has previously spoken about her excitement working with Vado, particularly on their 2023 collaboration “Still Believe In Love.”

As the legal battle plays out, fans are left shocked by the drama unfolding behind the scenes, especially given the longtime friendship between the two. For now, it remains to be seen how this will affect Vado’s music release and the business reputations of everyone involved.
