There has been no immediate response from Biden’s office regarding the decision. Under federal law, former presidents and their spouses receive lifetime Secret Service protection, but their children over the age of 16 lose eligibility once they leave office. However, outgoing presidents have the option to extend protection for up to six months. Biden chose to extend coverage for his children, just as Trump did for his own family in 2021. Previous presidents, including Barack Obama and George W. Bush, also provided extended security for their families.
In response to Trump’s announcement, the Secret Service released a statement confirming their awareness of the decision and their intent to comply. The agency stated they are actively coordinating with the White House to implement the change.

While visiting the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, Trump was asked by a reporter whether he planned to revoke Hunter Biden’s security detail. He initially seemed unaware of the situation, responding, “Well, we have done that with many. I would say if there are 18 with Hunter Biden, that will be something I’ll look at this afternoon.” He then added, “I’m going to take a look at that.”
