Simon Guobadia, the estranged husband of reality star Porsha Williams, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to official records from the Department of Homeland Security. The 60-year-old businessman, originally from Nigeria, is currently being held at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia.

Guobadia’s detainment comes amid President Donald Trump’s aggressive deportation policies, which were reinstated earlier this year. Under these measures, individuals with unresolved immigration issues face increased scrutiny and potential removal from the country. Reports indicate that Guobadia initially came to the U.S. in 1982 but overstayed his visa, leading to a deportation order in 1985. Despite this, he returned to the U.S. the following year and once again overstayed his visa, creating a decades-long legal battle over his residency status.

His immigration history is further complicated by past legal troubles. In 1987, Guobadia was arrested and pleaded guilty to charges related to bank and credit card fraud. Following multiple arrests, he was deported to Nigeria in 1992. However, just a month later, he returned to the U.S. and continued residing in the country. In 2016, he applied for naturalization but was ultimately denied. More recently, in February 2024, the Atlanta Black Star reported that he had repeatedly been denied legal residency in the U.S., though he publicly downplayed the situation.

On social media, Guobadia had previously boasted about his long-standing presence in the U.S., writing, “Happy Tuesday to all who ever overcame and persevered in life. You are winning👌🏾👌🏾 #42yearsLivinginAmerica.” Despite his confidence, his immigration status remained unresolved, culminating in his current detainment by ICE.
Meanwhile, speculation has been growing online about how ICE became aware of Guobadia’s status, with many questioning whether an anonymous tip led to his arrest. Social media users have been actively discussing the situation, with some suggesting that personal disputes or business rivals may have played a role in alerting authorities.

Guobadia’s legal troubles coincided with his highly publicized split from Porsha Williams. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star filed for divorce in February 2024 after just 15 months of marriage.
