Marvel Studios is reportedly reconsidering its decision to part ways with Jonathan Majors, with studio head Kevin Feige weighing the possibility of bringing him back to conclude Kang the Conqueror’s storyline. According to a report from ScreenGeek, discussions are underway about whether Majors could return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after being dropped in December 2023.

Majors had been positioned as the next major villain of the MCU, with Kang serving as the central antagonist of the Multiverse Saga. He made his first appearance as He Who Remains in Loki Season 1 before fully stepping into the role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. However, his future with Marvel took a drastic turn when he was arrested in March 2023 following allegations of assault and harassment by his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. After months of legal proceedings, Majors was convicted on two misdemeanor charges, prompting Marvel to sever ties and pivot away from Kang.

Following his departure, Marvel Studios faced the challenge of reworking its plans. The upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was renamed Avengers: Doomsday, signaling a shift in the franchise’s direction. Reports soon surfaced that Marvel would introduce Doctor Doom as the new overarching villain, a long-speculated move that excited fans but also left many wondering how the studio would resolve the unfinished Kang storyline. There were also discussions about recasting the role, with several names rumored, though Marvel never officially announced a replacement.

Now, reports suggest that Feige and other key executives are reconsidering their stance. One of the main reasons is the unresolved storyline surrounding Kang, as he was expected to play a major role in multiple projects, including Loki Season 2. Bringing Majors back could provide a proper conclusion to his character arc rather than abruptly abandoning it. Additionally, despite his legal troubles, Majors’ performance as Kang was widely praised, and he still has a strong fanbase. With the MCU struggling at the box office and facing declining audience engagement, Marvel may be evaluating whether reintegrating Majors is a better option than continuing to rewrite its long-term plans.

Hollywood’s approach to actors with legal controversies has also shifted in recent years, and some industry analysts believe Marvel could be testing whether the backlash from reinstating Majors would be outweighed by the benefits of keeping Kang in the story. As of now, Marvel has not made any official statements regarding his potential return. Meanwhile, Majors is set to star in Magazine Dreams, a drama about an aspiring bodybuilder, which is scheduled for release on March 21, 2025.

With Avengers: Doomsday slated for a May 2026 release, all eyes are on Marvel to see whether it will bring Majors back or continue moving forward without Kang as its central villain.
