On January 9, the comedian posted on Instagram, expressing his belief that these disasters could mark a new beginning. Along with a photo of the Hollywood sign engulfed in flames (later confirmed to be fake), Wayans shared his thoughts on how the events of the past few years—COVID, strikes, and now the fires—have impacted everyone, but also how they could lead to a transformation. “This ain’t Hollywood burning, it’s a rebirth,” he wrote. “This is rinsing our souls of all the devastation we have endured over the past five years.”

Wayans encouraged people to look beyond the tragedy and focus on triumph, believing that even through the hard times, something better can emerge. “Everything is God. May we all hear him. He is screaming at us… Everything will be okay, even better than before. It’s not the end… it’s a beginning. Love and prayers to all those affected,” he added. He also acknowledged those who have lost their homes, expressing his sorrow but emphasizing the importance of life over material things. “These things are replaceable but life is not,” he said.

The fires have forced evacuations across Los Angeles, affecting many, including celebrities like Jhené Aiko, Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, Mandy Moore, and Paris Hilton. As of Thursday, the fires had destroyed about 27 square miles of land and more than 1,000 buildings. The cause of the fires remains unclear, but strong winds and dry conditions have made them hard to contain.
