Andrew Schulz and Kendrick Lamar are at the center of a growing controversy, sparking conversations about comedy, race, and boundaries in creative expression. The drama began after Schulz made a joke about a hypothetical sexual encounter with Kendrick Lamar, a comment that many found offensive. The tension between the two appears to be linked to Lamar’s track Wacced Out Murals from his album GNX. The song is widely seen as a critique of white comedians disrespecting Black women, though Lamar never named anyone specifically.

Despite the lack of a direct reference, Schulz took to his podcast Brilliant Idiots to respond, warning Lamar not to mention his name. Schulz also pointed out that Lamar “knows better” than to call him out. This remark didn’t sit well with some in the hip-hop community, including TDE President Terrence “Punch” Henderson, who sarcastically questioned if Schulz was implying he wanted to sleep with Kendrick. Ice Cube’s son and rapper Meek Mill also weighed in, expressing that certain jokes about Black manhood and race aren’t taken lightly in their community.

Schulz stood by his comment, clarifying that his brand of comedy doesn’t target anyone based on race. He argued that he pokes fun at everyone, and his goal is never to be offensive but to make jokes that hold up under scrutiny. “There are people who hide behind the ‘comedian’ label to make hateful or racist jokes, and that’s not what I’m about,” Schulz said on his podcast. He emphasized that anyone who knows him knows he mocks everyone equally, regardless of their background.

However, the backlash has escalated, with Schulz claiming that some of Lamar’s fans have taken the feud too far, sending death threats to him and his family. “Some of the Kendrick stands have been posting things like telling me they’re going to take out my family on pictures of my child,” Schulz shared. “It’s gone as far as threats on a picture of my eight-month-old baby.” While Schulz doesn’t hold Kendrick Lamar responsible for the actions of his fans, he expressed frustration and concern over the extreme nature of the threats.
This ongoing clash between Schulz and Lamar has raised important questions about the limits of comedy and the power of celebrity influence, especially in today’s highly charged social media environment.
