Tremaine Neverson, known as Trey Songz, has been ordered to pay over $11 million after a Las Vegas judge ruled against him in a lawsuit involving an alleged assault on a police officer who was trying to rescue his wife. The incident occurred at The Cosmopolitan hotel in Las Vegas on November 28, 2021, when Tyrelle Dunn, a Maryland Capitol police officer, attempted to intervene after his wife reportedly told security she was being held against her will in Songz’s hotel room.

Dunn claims his wife was assaulted and had her phone taken away while in the hotel room, and after hearing her screams for help, Dunn approached the room. The lawsuit alleges that when Dunn attempted to help, he was attacked by Songz and his security personnel. Dunn suffered multiple injuries, including fractures to both eye sockets, injuries to his nose, ribs, stomach, ear, and head, and was unable to work for over a month.

The court awarded Dunn $11.2 million, which includes $5 million for pain and suffering, $5 million in punitive damages, and $1.2 million in prejudgment interest. The incident was initially investigated by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, but in March 2022, they announced that no criminal charges would be filed against Songz. However, Dunn’s civil suit proceeded, and Songz did not respond to the lawsuit after being served in August 2023.

This case adds to a long history of allegations against Songz, including previous accusations of sexual assault and physical assault, some of which have led to lawsuits. In 2021, former UNLV basketball player Dylan Gonzalez accused Songz of sexual assault, while other lawsuits have included claims of battery and misconduct. Despite his ongoing legal troubles, Songz continues to perform, with a planned appearance on “The Millennium Tour” in 2025.

The judgment is seen as a significant step for Dunn in seeking justice, though it highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding Songz’s personal conduct and legal issues.
