Speaking at the Fenty Skin launch party in Barbados, Rihanna said, “Music was the thing that got the attention. But God had other plans for me, and I was able to create in ways… that were very sincere and genuine or organic and authentic to the things that I love.” The Grammy-winning artist reflected on her journey and the pride she felt celebrating with her home community, adding, “I cannot express to you guys what this day means for me… to celebrate with the people that deserve it the most, the community that has always propelled me to the next place.”

Rihanna’s last album, Anti, came out in 2016, and while she hinted at a reggae-inspired follow-up in 2018, it has yet to materialize. Her recent music contributions include “Lift Me Up” and “Born Again” for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. When asked by Complex last December about her current creative focus, she explained, “I’m in an era of discovery… Maybe it’s rediscovery because so much is changing.” She described feeling “in the center” of personal and professional transitions.
