NeNe Leakes' Son Brentt Leakes Is Recovering After Heart Transplant

Brentt Leakes, the son of reality TV star NeNe Leakes, is inspiring many with his incredible journey to recovery. The 25-year-old recently underwent a heart transplant after being hospitalized in 2022 for heart failure and a stroke.

On October 21, Brentt took to social media to update his followers about his progress, sharing emotional videos of himself learning to walk again in the hospital. In one clip, he uses a walking aid, taking small steps while hospital staff assist him with IV fluids still attached. In another video, Brentt shows himself in his hospital bed with a breathing tube in his nose, revealing a large scar on his chest as he tells the camera, “I’ve got a new heart.”

In his heartfelt Instagram caption, Brentt expressed immense gratitude for the support he received during this challenging time. “This year was undoubtedly the craziest for me,” he wrote, recounting how he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in June after multiple hospital visits. “In July, I went into a 14-hour heart transplant surgery and now have a brand new heart in me.”

Brentt continued, “Now that I’m back (still in recovery), I’ve essentially had to relearn how to walk and communicate, but I’m even more fluent.” He emphasized the life-changing impact of his experience, saying, “This experience has FOREVER changed my life. I am so thankful to the family that donated the heart! A huge thank you to MY MOM, Marshella, Nyoni, Big Janae, Nikiyah, my friends, doctors, nurses, and everyone else who was pushing, pulling, and praying me through this [heart emoji].” He concluded with an inspiring message: “Never give up.”

NeNe also shared her pride and gratitude in the comments section, stating, “To God Be The Glory! It has been A LOT! I am so proud of how strong you’ve been through this process, son.” In 2022, NeNe revealed that Brentt’s health scare came as a shock, noting, “Two weeks ago today, Brentt had congestive heart failure and a stroke. He’s only 23, so he’s really young for something like that to happen to him.”

Despite Brentt’s young age, NeNe explained that he doesn’t drink or use drugs, and doctors even tested him for various conditions, including HIV. As she reflected on the “very scary” situation, she asked her followers to pray for her son. After spending two months in the hospital, Brentt was finally discharged in November 2022, and now he is on the road to recovery, ready to embrace this new chapter in his life.
