Niecy Nash was a vision in blue for the 25th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards.

Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. (Terms and conditions).

The beauty wore a blue-green sequin Tadashi Shoji Resort 2020 gown to the annual event. She looked like a mermaid and was definitely on our best dressed list! What really set off her look was the beautiful makeup that accompanied it. We were shocked to know that her foundation and many of the products she used were by Black Opal and cost under $10.00! We caught up with celebrity makeup artist Mila Thomas, who was responsible for this red carpet beat and she shared all the details on how we can get the look!

THE INSPIRATION

Niecy Nash was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television Category. When you have a nomination, you have to come with an award winning look! Thomas shared, “Niecy’s gorgeous sapphire and turquoise sequins gown inspired me to create a sapphire eye, detailing only a pop of sapphire blue in the waterline and under eye. I kept her skin and lips neutral, using only a bronze and golden palette.”

SKIN PREP

AHC Aqualuronic Cleanser

Beauties, you will always want to start with clean skin. Personally, I’m loving AHC Aqualuronic Facial Cleanser ($19.99, target.com). I tried it and it’s great for getting your skin clean and ready for makeup. If that’s a little out of your price range, then you’ll love Face & Glory Face Soal & Clarity Facial Wash ($10.99, target.com). It’s a three in one daily facial detox that contains Vitamin C. It’s also non-drying and the formula is easy to rinse off. Thomas used Black Opal Beauty Invisible Oil Gel Blocking Primer ($9.99, blackopalbeauty.com) in the t-zone and brow bone to “control unwanted shine.” Perfect for standing under pressure, er, we mean those bright lights!

SET THE FOUNDATION

Black Opal Beauty

Niecy Nash’s favorite foundation isn’t something that costs $80.00 or even $30.00. Her personal favorite is Black Opal True Color Skin Perfecting Stick Foundation ($9.95, blackopalbeauty.com). This stick foundation is an industry secret and trusted by many. It also has SPF 15 built in the formula, giving your face protection from the sun. Nash wore both Rich Caramel and “‘Nutmeg’ on the inside and perimeters of her face for a perfect match and natural finish.” Thomas shared that after she blended those two shades, she used the shade ‘Hazelnut’ (to contour and warm the face).

CONCEAL TO REVEAL!

After Thomas used the foundation and contoured, it was time for the concealer. She applied Black Opal Concealer Total Coverage Concealing Foundation in ‘Heavenly Honey’ ($9.95, blackopalbeauty.com) “to the center and under-eye area for a golden lit from within warmth.” We love to see it!

Thomas set Nash’s look with Black Opal Invisible HD Finishing Powder ($9.99, blackopalbeauty.com) that leaves you with a matte finish. You can apply all over your face if you are oily or just to your t-zones if you want to prevent shine in these specific areas.

ALL ABOUT THE EYES

The eyes really made this look. Thomas shared that she used Fenty Beauty True Neutrals Shadow Palette Blue Eyeliner ($25.00, sephora.com) on the lids of her eyes and Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon ($25.00, marcjacobsbeauty.com) “to line the bottom water line and smudged under the eye.” The blue eyeliner trend is still going strong and won’t be going anywhere for at least another 2 seasons.

LIP SERVICE

We loved how Niecy Nash had a nude, natural lip to allow her dress and eyes to be the focus of the look. Thomas used Black Opal Dual Ended Gloss in ‘Matinee Mocha’ ($12.59, amazon.com).
